Cycling around Normandy

On the recent jubilee bank holiday I made the most of a long weekend to get away from the bunting and made my way to France for a quick holiday/training ride.

The was the first solo tour I've done, and it was quite liberating. Though I'd not choose to cycle solo over riding in a group, it's not a bad experience for a short, fast ride. I ended up covering 85-110 miles per day, finishing around lunch time most days.

The route

The route followed my 2010 ride to Paris, east through the Normandie-Maine Regional Natural Park, across to Mont st Michel, then north to Cherbourg.

Travelling light

I was travelling on a carbon framed road bike, without bike mounts.. which proved tricky for kit as I'd planned taking pannier (by using P-clips). It seems using p-clips on CF frames is a mistake, as well as using handlebar bags on CF stems or handlebars. Luckily my stem + handlebars were not CF, so I went with the handlebar option.

For a bit of extra kit, I took a small rucksack which also had a camelback. All in all I probably had 4kg of kit, not too heavy at all!
